Acoustic Guitar with Zac Hooper The acoustic guitar lends itself to a variety of styles of music and in this beginners' course, song material drawn from rock, blues and world music will provide the means of learning to play the guitar. A vocabulary of chords and a simple playing technique will gradually develop and guitar tablature will be introduced as a shorthand form of musical notation. Students should bring their own guitar. The level 2 courses are for those with guitar experience or who have completed a beginners' course. Zac has been playing guitar for 17 years and comes from a family of musicians. Flamenco Guitar with José León The captivating sound of the Flamenco guitar is unmistakeable! Rhythmic, percussive, melodic, haunting and intensely passionate, it is a pivotal element of an art form renowned for its fire, mystery, spirit and drama. José studied with his uncle in Spain and performs professionally with his sister Anna (dancer) in their co-founded Flamenco group. He teaches in the UK and Spain and gives an authentic insight into the rhythms, accompaniment, techniques, forms and their origins. Enhanced by his ability to sing, his guidance is patient, encouraging and enjoyable. No formal musical training is needed for this course, but it is not for absolute beginners to the guitar. Creative Photography with Natasha Lythgoe This non-darkroom based beginners course will explore the creative possibilities of photography within a supportive and friendly environment. Practical, theoretical and creative aspects of photography will be covered in some detail to enable students to acquire the necessary skills, confidence and knowledge to become competent photographers. Styles of photography and photographers will also be studied. Students should bring along an SLR camera with manual function. Natasha trained in Fine Art Photography at Chelsea
School of Art. She has exhibited her work internationally and has been
artist in residence at Duckspool, Taunton.

Creative Writing with Gary Mepsted Writing in any form novel, play, short story can be a lonely and often painful business. The Monday course is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. It will offer a stimulating, supportive and fun environment in which to share ideas, air problems and receive practical advice and guidance on your work. If youre after honest and constructive feedback and an antidote to that feeling of writing in a vacuum, this is the course for you. Gary holds an MA in Creative Writing from Sussex University and has taught many successful writing courses for both the WEA and QueenSpark Books.
